About Social Studies Class

First Nation People

For Humanities 8, it mostly develop students' communication, thinking, and personal and social core competencies. Most students feel this class is the hardest in grade 8, because it include both Social Studies and English two hard classes. For Social Studies 9, it most let students to learn the 17th - 19th centuries Western Civilization. It care about Canada's political, social, economic, and technological revolutions.

Canada History

Social Studies is a required courses in RC Palmer Secondary School. It is kind hard than Math, Science (Biology, Physical, and Chemistry). For this class, student who English isn't pass can't take. Need to be ELL 3. It include history, geography, economics, civics, and government. This class in grade 8 is different than others grades, it merge with English class, called Humanities.

For Social Studies 10, it will make the knowledge from Humanities 8 and Social Studies 9 be the base and develop them. It will make students be better to explanation, analysis and communication the things they know together. For Social Studies 11, it most learn 20th Century Word social, cultural or technological innovation, development, global development, rights of individuals in Canada. Laying the foundation for grade 12 in advance.

Canada Law

For Social Studies 12, it will separate to four different topics, they are 20th Century World History, Law, BC First Peoples, and Psychology.  20th Century World History is to learn the world in the 20th century beginning with the consequences of WWI, most focus on Ideology, war, race, conflict, society, and international. For Law, students will learn the legal system in Canada. Topics are Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, human rights codes, as well as criminal and civil law systems. For BC First people, it will let students know the cultures, worldviews, and practices of BC First Peoples. For Psychology, it will help students understand themself, world, and the people around them.

Social studies is a very important subject, its knowledge will be use a lot for students in the future, most point is what will happen after they entering society?
