About Chemistry Class
In RC Palmer Secondary School, Chemistry is a required courses. Every students must be taken. It's one of the Science class, other two are physics and biology. For this class, students at least ELL 2 could take. Otherwise, they only could go to " ELL Science/Social Studies". In grade 8-10, Chemistry related with Physics and Biology, called Science 8, 9, and 10. By grade 11, it divided to Chemistry 11 and 12.
Periodic Table
For Science 8-10, Chemistry isn't really detailed, it only about one-third, because students also need to learn Biology and Physics. Chemistry 8 will learn about matter, density, atomic theory, atoms and elements. Chemistry 9 will develop the knowledge students learn from in 8, students will in-depth study Periodic Table, learn atomic structure and chemical reactions. For Chemistry 10, students will not just learn about identifying elements, they will know chemical reactions require energy changes.
Scientific Calculator
For Chemistry 11 and 12, it will be divided into different classes from physics and biology. Chemistry 11 will involving math problems, so every students must have scientific calculator, its new knowledges are naming compounds, mole concept, stoichiometry, aqueous ionic reactions, and organic chemistry. Chemistry 12 should have the good base for Chemistry 11, students will work a lot in lab, the experiments topics are electricity, power, dissolution, and equilibrium.
Beakers
In conclusion, Chemistry is a very important subject, every students need to learn, senior grade's knowledge will be hard to learn. It will help a lot in the future for daily life, such as health, food, materials, and energy. The career it helps include forensic pathologist, pharmacist, chemical engineer.
